Twelve Girls Band FAQ

What is the Twelve Girls Band?: The 12 Girls Band is all girls band, uses traditional Chinese instrumentals and plays modern pop, rock, jazz and classic music.
When the Twelve Girls Band established, and how?: It was founded in Beijing July 2001(or some information it was June 18th 2001). The members are selected by audition from 4,000 girls studied in the elite Chinese music academies. The selected members are all talented in Chinese traditional music and looks beauty.
What kind of instrumentals they use?: Many Chinese instrumentals. Erhu (two-stringed Chinese fiddle), pipa (a pear-shaped lute), Guzheng (ancient plucked instrument with 21 or 25 strings), yangqin (Chinese dulcimer), dizi (bamboo flute), hulusi (gourd and bamboo flute used in the South China), duxianqin (Chinese monochord zither), and so on.
How many members are the Twelve Girls Band?: There are 13 members, but in many case, 12 members of them are appears.
Why not Thirteen Girls Band?: In China, 12 is a miracle number. So, although there are 13 members, they calls themselves 12 Girls Band.
Why not 12 members?: Some members works not only for the Twelve Girls Band but for some Chinese famous orchestras, so they need an extra member.
Who are the members?: Guzheng -- Zhou Jiannan. Yangqin -- Yang Songmei and Ma Jingjing. Pipa -- Zhang Shuang, Zhang Kun and Zhong Bao. Erhu -- Zhan Lijun, Yin Yan, Lei Ying (she plays also duxianqin), Sun Ting and Jiang Jin. Dizi -- Sun Yuan and Liao Binqu.
Who established this band?: Wang Xiaojing, who is also the producer of the first Chinese Rock singer Cui Jian, and other many pop stars.
Chinese girls performed at the 2004 Athens Olympics closing ceremony. Are they 12 Girls Band?: No, they are NOT Twelve Girls Band. But it shows that Twelve Girls Band is now the symbol of China.
