What is 12 Girls Band?

The 12 Girls Band is the latest musical phenomenon from the People's Republic of China. The band was founded in June, 2001. They take 1500 years of Chinese music tradition and make it contemporary. By playing modern arrangements on traditional Chinese instruments, they have created something entirely unique in world music. With such pop-classical combination of music, coupled with passionate performances, they managed to enlarge the group of people who enjoy Chinese instrumental music, and thus develops Chinese instrumental music both at home and abroad. 　　

The 12 Girls Band is an ensemble of thirteen beautiful young women, all graduates from elite music academies, such as the Central Conservatory of Music, China Conservatory, Central University for Nationalities and PLA Art College, and veterans of top orchestras in China. Their musical instruments mainly include those Chinese musical instruments like guzheng, dulcimer, pipa, erhu, zhudi, xiao, hulusi, duxianqin etc.
